Abstract 57. Cost Effectiveness and Utility of Routine Pathologic Evaluation of Plastic Surgery Specimens
نویسندگان
چکیده
RESULTS: The decision tree shows the associated QALYs, costs and probabilities used to calculate the ICUR of $3,699/QALY with gain of 2.7 QALYs at an additional cost of $9,987 proving that LVOS is cost-effective. One-way sensitivity analysis showed that LVOS became cost-ineffective when its clinical effectiveness had a QALY of less than 30.187. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis using Monte-Carlo simulation showed that even with varying multiple variables at once, results tended to favor our conclusion.

Economic Evaluation of Infliximab for Treatment of Refractory Ulcerative Colitis in Iran: Cost-Effectiveness Analysis
The aim of this study is to assess cost-effectiveness of infliximab, compared with conventional treatments in patients with moderate to severe Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in Iran. We developed an analytical decision model with a 5-year-time horizon to follow up 1000 hypothetical patients, in order to estimate treatment costs and outcomes. Hypothetical patients, were individuals with moderate to sev...
متن کاملPathological review of turbinate tissue from functional nasal surgery: incurring costs without adding quality.
OBJECTIVE Inferior turbinate surgery for nasal obstruction can be performed in a variety of ways. Only a few of these methods produce tissue that can be sent for pathologic analysis. According to the College of American Pathologists, turbinate tissues are not exempt from requisite pathologic evaluation. Our objectives were to evaluate the clinical value and cost implications of routine patholog...
متن کاملHistopathological Evaluation of Reduction Mammaplasty Specimens to Detect Occult Breast Cancer: A Report from Southern Iran
BACKGROUND Reduction mammaplasty (RM) is among the commonly performed procedures by plastic surgeons. Occult breast cancers are rarely detected in these specimens. The purpose of the study was to describe histopathological evaluation of reduction mammaplasty specimens to detect occult breast cancer in Southern Iran. METHODS The histological diagnosis of 350 RM specimens from 175 patients...
متن کاملDetermining the Utility of Pathologic Analysis of Ureteral Specimens Obtained from Repair of Vesicoureteral Reflux and Ureterovesical Junction Obstruction in Children: Potential for Physician-Initiated Cost-Reduction
Purpose: Partial resection of the distal ureter is commonly performed during reconstructive surgery in pediatric urology; particularly for correction of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and ureterovesical junction obstruction (UVJO). Many hospitals require pathologic examination of all excised tissues. We examined the pathologic findings in such specimens to evaluate the utility of this practice. Me...
